This past weekend I watched the NCAA gymnastics national championship and it got me thinking about my own gymnastics story.

I still remember getting my first kip on bars. It felt like the biggest deal. And then suddenly there was just so much more to learn. That was kind of the whole thing with gymnastics for me. There was always a next skill, always something to work toward.

I don't like photos of myself.

Not in a fishing-for-compliments way — I genuinely look at photos of myself and think, that's not me. That stiff, self-conscious person staring back at the camera? I don't recognize her. And for a long time, I figured that was just how photos worked. Some people were photogenic. I wasn't one of them.

So it's a little funny that I ended up here.
